Gamecocks pick up a commitment from linebacker Quin Smith (6-foot-1, 208 pounds) of Lenoir, N.C. Smith attended a camp at USC Monday and contacted his recruiter, Ray Rychleski, Tuesday with his pledge. Smith plays running back and defensive back in high school but is projected as a linebacker for the Gamecocks. Last season he rushed for 1075 yards, and had more than 300 yards receiving. He threw two passes as a QB, completed both, and one was for a touchdown. Smith also had more than 180 tackles, and four interceptions.

Early in this recruiting period, he already has offers from South Carolina, East Carolina and is getting interest from Duke, Wake Forest and many others. He’s the forth commitment for the Gamecocks’ 2009 class.
